196 coin day with 3 silvers and other goodies

Posted by Nathan Schwenke on

We decided to go out hunting on the hottest day of the year so far and man was the ground hard as a rock.  Summertime in Nebraska so what do you expect huh?  97 degrees and humid as heck, but it turned out to be a great day.  We got permission to hunt an old house built in 1938 in the country club area and it turned out to be a good one.  196 total coins, 3 slivers (2 rosies and our first Merc of the year) - (1937).  6 wheaties and a bunch of clad. We also found a...

Awesome find on day out with family!!

Posted by Nathan Schwenke on

Decided to take the detector down to my wife's families cabin located near Crete, Nebraska.  The area is quite old, early 1900's or so but I came across of my best finds yet, an 1875 silver seated liberty dime. I couldn't believe what I was pulling out of the ground, although the coin is quite worn but I was still as excited as could be.  It was about 6 inches down between 2 very old oak trees.  I'm guessing there must have been an old farm stead in the area previous to the cabins being built, also found a couple 1940's Wheaties and a real neat...

21 Wheaties and a Silver day!

Posted by Nathan Schwenke on

It was a great day of hunting.  We detected 3 older homes today, 2 homes were built in the 1940's and one home built around 1900. Found about 125 total coins and today must have been wheatie day because we found around 21 of them, the oldest being a 1919 wheatie we found at the home built in 1900.  Also found there was the 1925 silver Mercury dime about 6 inches deep which made our day.  The neatest find of the day however had to have been the silver ring which was found between the sidewalk and the street at one of the...

A day at the Lake with the Garrett AT-Pro

Posted by Nathan Schwenke on

We decided to try detecting a day at the lake since we have a Garrett AT-Pro and haven't tried it out yet under water, it was pretty fun and although we didn't find any gold rings we did find quite a bit of clad and a few bullets and a nice large set of car keys (I bet someone left the lake that day not very happy).  Also found quite a bit of pull tabs of course, but your not going to find any gold rings without digging the good ole pull tabs.  The pull tabs ring about a 58...

Clad finds and exchange for Silver

Posted by Nathan Schwenke on

Once and while one of us will turn in our clad that we have found metal detecting and turn it in for cash at the local banks.  One week was a $127.23 cash out for the clad found.  So after the cash out we then take that money to the local coin shop and buy silver or gold depending on how much we have, below are pics of what $127.23 bought.  This is a great way to show that this fun hobby does pay off and you cant say that for all hobbies!
